As the world's first UV printer with integrated contour cutting, Roland's DPI award-winning VersaUV LEC series quickly revolutionized the packaging prototype and short-run label industries. For the first time, professionals could print CMYK plus white and clear inks for varnishing and embossing effects on virtually any substrate and then crease, contour cut or perf-cut their designs, all on one device through one seamless workflow.

Available in 30- and 54-inch models, Roland LEC series UV printers use safe, low-heat LED lamps to print on materials ranging from metallic and synthetic papers and foils to BOPP, PE and PET film, even leather and fabrics. VersaUV creates remarkably rich effects including matte and high-gloss finishes in your choice of textures and patterns. Roland ECO-UV inks produce graphics that are easy to handle and can be stretched across curved surfaces and sharp edges without cracking. With VersaUV, your prototypes and comps are so realistic, they are virtually indistinguishable from finished products.

State of the Art Curing System for Matte and Gloss Finishes

The ability to reposition UV lamps automatically is another Roland innovation. While the exact configuration of UV lamps varies with each LEC model, all three enable your choice of gloss or matte clear finishes.

Ideal Pre Press Device

The VersaUV is a very capable pre-press and proofing device that can save commercial printers the many costs associated with press downtime. In fact, each time a shop has to take a flexo or gravure press offline to print a proof or prototype, significant productivity and profits are lost. Flexo printing even a single proof or comp requires creating plates, adding labor and material costs to the job. The LEC series eliminates these issues for businesses and allows them to keep larger presses online for production. Support for color proofingwith CGS ORIS Color Tuner, GMG Color Proof and FlexoProof/Dot Proof and EFI Print Pack 2 for Color Proof XF and Fiery XF RIP is available. With the ability to print directly to many offset, rotogravure and flexo stocks and the ability to simulate UV varnish and embossing, the LEC generates very realistic proofs at a fraction of the cost and time.

Perfect for Short Run Label Production

Print CMYK plus white on foils, BOPP, PE, PET film and offset printing stock. Clear coat adds three-dimensional effects. Variable data printing allows you to print a hundred personalized labels – each with a different name, serial number or artwork. Perfect for prototyping a series of packages or production of custom, high-end wine bottles.

Membrane Panels

With the VersaUV, you can print a single membrane panel or several. The LEC accommodates reverse printing of CMYK, then prints white on polycarbonate stocks without the need to create screens for each color.

Specialty Graphics

With VersaUV, you can eliminate outsourcing for short production runs as well. In small quantities, you can easily produce truly unique, customized graphics and wraps of virtually any shape, size and texture. Production is easy. With VersaUV, there are no plates or film to produce. Simply design on your personal computer, send your file to the printer, and VersaUV does the rest, printing and digitally die-cutting your finished print quickly and easily.

Custom Large Format Graphics

In addition to packaging prototypes and short-run labels, the 54" VersaUV LEC-540 is perfect for wide-format graphics. Produce highly customized window graphics, wall wraps, trade show displays and interior décor items.

ECO UV Inks

ECO-UV inks adhere to a wide range of treated and untreated substrates with exceptional color gamut. Instant-drying and flexible, ECO-UV inks produce prints that require no degassing and can be stretched and applied around curved surfaces and edges without cracking.

The LEC series supports ECO-UV inks in two formulations: original ECO-UV in CMYK + white + clear and ECO-UV S ink in CMYK + white.

Original ECO-UV delivers outstanding performance for printing environments that require clear coat to finish graphics. For wide-format VersaUV devices configured with CMYK and white only (CMYK + white + white), users can upgrade to ECO-UV S for added flexibility. ECO-UV S expands up to 220 percent, allowing graphics to wrap uneven shapes, indentations, corners and curved surfaces. With ECO-UV S, prints mold perfectly to the contours of PET bottles and plastic cups, and adhere flawlessly to vacuum-formed plastic that is commonly used for items ranging from food service trays to auto parts packaging and consumer electronics cases.

Choose from four ink configurations:

Original ECO-UV

  • CMYK + White + Clear
  • CMYK + White + White
  • CMYK + Clear + Clear
ECO-UV S
  • CMYK + White + White

As the most versatile ink configuration, CMYK + White + Clear can be used for a wide range of applications including packaging prototypes, labels, high end press-proofs and unique textured graphics. (ECO-UV only)

The CMYK + White + White mode (LEC-540/330) achieves higher opacity without slowing down the printing with overprinting. It's perfect for white text and graphics, undercoats and to enhance the brightness of four-color prints. The white produced with this ink configuration can be up to 1.5 times more opaque than the normal white, all without requiring a complicated workflow or overprinting. Choose from ECO-UV or ECO-UV S formulations.

ECO-UV Clear adds remarkably rich special effects ranging from matte and high-gloss finishes for area highlights or floods to custom-textured effects such as faux leather, crocodile skin and even Braille. The CMYK + Clear + Clear mode (LEC-540/330) can build up three-dimensional textures twice as fast as the normal ink mode and can produce more dramatic effects with bigger reliefs. (ECO-UV only)

ECO-UV inks shine for indoor graphics, offering superior scratch and chemical resistance. Outdoors, ECO-UV inks last up to six months without clear (both formulations), and up to two years when clear is applied as a finish (ECO-UV only).

ECO-UV inks are packaged in no-mess 220ml cartridges and safe after curing. Proper ventilation is required. The LEC series is ventilation-ready, featuring a ventilation hood for easy connection with an air filtration system.

Integrated Print/Cut Feature

The LEC series streamlines the production process by automatically contour cutting printed graphics. By eliminating the need to reload and reposition graphics, the LEC integrated cutter saves valuable time and effort. The LEC can contour cut through the top layer of lined media or create a perforated cut on non-lined media (like card stock for packaging prototypes). By switching out the cutting tool, the LEC can also crease your media for easy, accurate folding of packaging prototypes.

VersaWorks RIP Software

VersaWorks RIP software has been developed exclusively for Roland inkjet printers and printer/cutters. This true Adobe PostScript 3 RIP ensures exceptional production output with unmatched ease of use and incorporates the latest Adobe CPSI 3019 engine.

VersaWorks supports the Roland Color system which accurately reproduces more than 1,000 spot colors from color charts and swatch books. For the VersaUV LEC series, VersaWorks also includes the Roland Texture Library featuring 72 ready-to-use textures that can be applied to designs by layering the LEC’s clear coat ink. For white ink applications, you can select from either single pass or dual pass modes.

With VersaWorks, you can choose from print options including a high-speed mode for production banner printing, the MAX Impact preset for vivid outdoor graphics and Artistic mode for exceptional indoor graphics. In addition, VersaWorks features Variable Data Printing and supports up to four Roland devices simultaneously including printers, printer/cutters and cutters. It automatically estimates the ink usage and print time for each graphic so you can accurately monitor time and costs.

VersaWorks features include embedded ICC profile support, ink level adjustment tools, soft proofing capabilities, error diffusion for outstanding print quality and advanced cropping, tiling and nesting options. Support for Roland cutters allows you to pair a Roland cutter with any wide-format or desktop printer for print/cut applications. The PerfCut function produces precision perforated cut lines. VersaWorks is fully compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000.

Roland Intelligent Pass Control

Across a wide variety of applications and media, Roland Intelligent Pass Control technology delivers outstanding image quality in all print modes while eliminating virtually any signs of banding. First introduced in the SOLJET PRO III series, this patent-pending system ensures that graphics look great when viewed indoors or outdoors, up close and at a distance.

Advanced Media Take Up System

The LEC series includes an automated media take-up system to facilitate precision unattended printing and cutting. This pre-assembled unit includes an advanced tension-controlled take-up system for optimum media feed and tracking.

Ethernet Connectivity

Roland understands that busy shops need to maximize the layout of their workstations and printing equipment. High-speed Ethernet network connectivity is built-in standard to the LEC series, so it can quickly process gigabytes worth of image data for everyone in your shop.
